Today I will …

use my own shopping bags.

This step must sound very cliché, yet I find myself getting plastic bags at Wal-Mart almost every time. Not because I answer a question or pay for them, but simply because the cashier immediately puts my items in a bag after scanning. (Well, even worse: usually in a lot of bags.)

The Netherlands will ban free plastic bags as from January 1, 2016.

I buy most of my groceries in a supermarket where I can bag my own items, so I already take those home in reusable bags. However, every now and then I need some stuff from Wal-Mart and when the self checkout is busy (where you can scan and pay on your own), I almost always walk out of the store with those plastic bags.
It’s time for a more assertive stance, and yes, even in Canada that must be doable! 😉
